Wordpress 2.3.3 and a New Theme

March 5th, 2008 | Comments | Posted in geek

So I finally got inspired to do some web work. Which meant some much needed love for the old blog.

Have now got it up to the latest Wordpress and switchedthe server copy to being SVN controlled to make updates much easier. A few plugins were broken with the upgrade but nothing major. Will be playing with the new theme to get some new and old plugins going again.

Which brings me to the new look. I’ve been eying off Dean’s Redoable theme for a while and I’m glad to finally get it live. A little more lively than the last theme. It’s still pretty stock standard for the moment, but there’s a list of tweaks for me to tackle over the next few weeks.

Stay tuned… :)

WordPress Plugin Directory

March 16th, 2007 | Comments | Posted in geek

Worpress have just announced a brand spanking new plugin directory hosted by wordpress.org. This is fantastic and has been needed for some time.

It allows browsing of all the Wordpress plugins in one central locations. With features like rating, stats and comments it makes it far easier to identify the strong and well love plugins. No longer will you have to waste time trolling the Codex and Support Forums.

As for the developers it allows for central hosting solution for their projects as well as Paypal donation button. Plus in the future allow for upgrade notifications directly to the end user at their Wordpress install. :D

Go check it out.

Wordpress Bookmarklet Window Fix

June 15th, 2006 | Comments | Posted in geek

With Wordpress v2 came a change to the Wordpress Bookmarklet. It no longer opened in a small new window, instead it opened in the same window you wished to blog about. :! Not that helpful if you wish to reference the original article to collect quotes etc.

But there is a fix! One kind fellow managed to produce the required javascript code to make the Bookmarklet once again open in the new window.

Simply create bookmark or edit the current Bookmarklet and in the address field add the code from the following pastebin. I’d post the code here, but the javascript displays incorrectly. :(

Be sure to change http://www.example.com/ to your website plus wordpress directory if not in the root. You can also change width=600,height=460, to increase or decrease the size of the Bookmarklet window. :)

Works a treat!
