No Comments 12 Books in 12 Months
12 books, to some of you that might not sound like a whole lot. But to me a very slow reader, it’s a large amount. My plan for a New Years Resolution is to read one book a month. A huge jump from my couple of books I might read in a year.
To keep this challenge in the Geek realm I’ve opened up an account with Shelfari to display the books read/reading here on my blog. Shelfari is another Web 2.0 to add to the list. They describe themselves “Shelfari is an interactive social media site for book lovers. Using Shelfari, you can create a personal shelf of your books, see what your friends are reading, get and give recommendations for what to read next, create book lists, and even share your opinion on a book with friends or the growing Shelfari community.” I signed up a few weeks back and it’s already starting to take off. Hopefully I have some time to sit down and add a few more books that we have sitting on the shelf.
Anyway enough of the tech talk and back to the book talk. I managed to finish the first book early and am eager to get onto my second. The first book down was a Dragonlance novel (I know, I know, cheesy fantasy novels) ‘Preludes Volume 1 : Darkness and Light’. This was first on the list as I had started it last year and never really got anywhere with it. A new year and time to finish this one off. Now if it weren’t for the Gnomes, this book would have been a very boring read. Starts off simple enough, but starts to get weird once the Gnomes are involved. It’s not just the Gnomish factor taking the book to a weird place, it’s my science loving mind trying to ignore the poetic license for a fantasy world. If you can put this aside, it’s a great journey. Just a shame the ending rather flat-lines.
Here’s hoping the next book is just as entertaining with the weird elements. Perhaps a Discworld novel? Don’t want to push myself too hard to begin with and burn out now do I?
