ActiveSync: Force Guest Only

Just want to plug in your WindowsCE based device and not create a partnership? Well if that’s the case you no doubt have to go through the wizard each and every time you dock your device.

But! There is a registry tweak for ActiveSync to force GuestOnly mode. This pretty much disables ActiveSync and just allows connection to the PC.

Just add the registry entry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows CE Services]
"GuestOnly"=dword:00000001

Easy!

    I’ve been using this for awhile, but now I have a laptop with Vista, and the same trick doesn’t work with the new Windows Mobile Device Center that has replaced ActiveSync. I wish I could do the same to it, but I can’t find a similar registry hack for it.

    You know I’m not sure… I’ve only just started to use a Windows Mobile device with Vista myself and haven’t found the option yet. A quick search isn’t that helpful either.

    Will let you know if I find something. :)
