George Foreman has No Fingerprints

FOREMAN GETS GRILLED – 10/01/05
Former heavyweight boxer George Foreman, who has reached popularity again with his range of cooking appliances, was held by security for 4 hours at the Miami International Airport today.

Security would not allow Foreman, who had been doing promotion in Japan, back into the country as he could not provide the fingerprints required by federal law for entry. An accident over 15 years ago while using drain cleaner resulted in chemical burns to both his hands, and the loss of most of his fingerprints.

A spokesperson for the MIA, Terry Noble, said “It has been an unfortunate misunderstanding and the airport sincerely apologises to Mr Foreman.” He also stated that a review of the procedures at the airport had been launched to prevent the situation arising again.

There is a WikiPedia entry with the same info but it has been disputed, citing lack of sources. Nothing appears on Snopes. Is there any official press on this?

I have noted George’s appearances on Good morning Australia, The tonight show and various sales shows. It is apparent that George does not show his hands often and i wonder why it took so long for the news to get out. Appart from the quote spoken by Terry Noble, i have found various reports writen by Ross Psiakas. Maybe Wikepedia should give them a look over!

I thought fingerprints eventually grow back even after serious injury.

George’s fingerprints were the result of a chemical accident. I’m not a doctor but I know that chemical burns do not grow back. I’m not quite sure why wikipedia cites lack of corroboration – the incident is clearly mentioned in George’s second biography ‘Grillers In The Mist’ by J.J.Jones.

This is nothing but a truthless runour started by Ross Noble!

On Rove Live (11th April 2006) comedian Ross Noble confessed that he made up that George Foreman had no fingerprints on a radio show and then found it funny when it “appeared all over the internet”. They had a bit of discussion about it, so it looks like this is just a wind up.
